Join Merrick Jacob for a daylong immersion into Contact Improvisation on Saturday, July 8 from 10:30am - 5:00pm at Hawaii Eco Retreat!

This workshop is for those who are excited about going deeper in the form; whether you’ve taken a couple classes or are a first-timer, all are very welcome. We’ll spend the day together exploring and having fun with some essential elements of contact improv; from weight sharing, falling & flying, to using the form as a vehicle for personal research and compositional perspectives as a tool for generating creativity.

We’ll have a morning session, break for lunch, afternoon session, and then will cap the day with time for discovery & labbing to integrate the experience together and work on areas of the form you are most interested in researching.

By the end of this contact improvisation immersion, I hope that you gain excitement around all the possibilities to come from continuing to go deeper in the practice - possibly for many years to come :)

About Merrick

Merrick Jacob (she/her) is a lover of movement, continuously in awe of the body and its potential for unique expression, creativity, & authentic connection. Influenced by her practices of figure skating, acroyoga, hand-balancing, and contact improv, she guides playful movement experiences as an opportunity for deep listening, exploration, and co-creation. She is a certified acroyoga instructor with AcroRevolution & AcroYoga Montréal. Merrick studied a variety of somatic movement therapy modalities with Dynamic Embodiment & The Moving On Center: School of Participatory Arts & Somatic Research, focusing on BodyMind Centering & Laban Movement Analysis. Merrick primarily teaches contact improv in the San Francisco Bay Area and at related movement festivals: SoulPlay (2022) and Embodifest (2023).
